A number of significant railway projects are expected to be commissioned in Turkey throughout 2019. These include the 76.6km long suburban line between Gebze and Halkali, whereas the 13km-long segment of the Marmaray line is expected to see ridership go up to 200mn very soon. The recently completed Marmaray tunnel will be used by freight trains as well, but only at night time so as not to obstruct the operation of suburban rail services running during daytime. The high-speed railway line between Sivas and Ankara is scheduled to open toward the end of 2019, whereas the Konya high-speed station at the beginning of the same year. As for metro lines, the Bostanci-Dudullu, Sabiha-Gokcen, Kabatas-Mahmutbey, and the Istanbul metro line are planned to be inaugurated in 2019. Furthermore, tram line extensions will be as follows: the construction of Varsak-Zerdalilik tram line in Antalya will carry on as per schedule and will open in Q1 2019, whereas new tracks were laid on the Sekapark-Plaiyolu line in Kocaeli, line which is set to be commissioned in H2 2019. The extension of the Samsum line, on the other hand, is estimated to open at the beginning of 2019 as works are nearly finalised. Lastly, the line between Kalin and Samsun will have new signalling installed and will be inaugurated in 2019, while the the Yenice-Ulukisla line will see its electrification process completed in early 2019, when the Bandirma-Balikesir line will boast a new signalling system too.
