New car began to be used on MBTA’s Green Line in December 2018

In the US, a new car began to be used on 21 December 2018 by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) on its Green Line. The car is among the 24 low-floor light-rail cars that will be supplied by rail car company CAF USA as part of a USD 118mn (EUR 102.30mn) deal. The cars, which will boast a crash energy management structural design, will be able to accommodate 10% more people. Sliding doors will be used on the vehicles to better allow passengers get into and leave the cars. The number of vehicles on the Green Line had not been expanded for almost a decade prior to the introduction of the new car. According to MBTA’s plans, the Green Line will incorporate all of the cars between December 2018 and autumn 2019.
